Straight From The Masterclass - Tip 2 - "Automatic Dimensions - Exterior Dimensioning"

Its ArchiCAD mission to assist users to create high quality Documentations without applying too much effort, as a matter of fact most architects enjoy working on their 3D models more than in 2D views. One of those features in ArchiCAD that will do 90% of our work is the Automatic Dimension tool.

This tool allows us to apply the most typical dimensions on the floor plan views with only a few clicks. To find this tool go to Document > Document Extras > Automatic Dimensioning > Exterior Dimensioning

A Typical example, You may draw a small enclosed space with walls, Then select all walls and open the Automatic Dimension tool as mentioned above.

  • Define the Appropriate preferences for the Dimensioning and click OK

  • Define the Direction of the Dimension lines. One way to do this is to click in an empty area and click again to define the Dimension Direction
  • Click with the Hammer cursor to place the Dimension lines.

Dimensions will be placed as easy as that, you also have a choice to edit them as desired.
