Kobus Spanenberg of the University of the Free State (our featured case study of our last newsletter) has done himself and his institution proud by taking first position in the 2015 bloembuild Expo CAD Design Challenge.
Bloem Build Competition
The bloembuild Expo, a joint initiative of the Free State Institute of Architects, the UFS State Department of Architecture and UFS University Estates, issued a challenge to participants to redesign an existing ‘old school’ lecture room applying the prescribed guidelines. The new design can use elements such as seating, technology, partitions, etc. to promote:
- Student engagement
- Active learning
- Collaborative learning, etc.
Participants had to work in teams of 2 and produce a minimum of 3 renders of the respective designs. This formed part of the presentation and judging was done with regards to the following criteria:
- Interpretation of the guidelines.
- Quality of the presentation.
- Adaptability of the redesigned facility.
- Design Aesthetics
- Promotion of student engagement, active and collaborative learning.
Kobus’s design incorporates functionality and creativity to bring a new way of learning.
